So has it happened to you yet? If it hasn't odds on that you are worrying when its going to happen.
After all, its happened to more than 2million people now, so why not you.
I don't know which is worse. Waiting for it to happen, or that it has actually happened.
Can you plan for it? Can you prepare? Or are you just philosophical about it?
Whichever one it is, I do know that its a blow for peoples confidence, self-esteem, personal power.
People get scared. How will they manage financially? The truth is, they may not.
Will they ever get another job? We are told, oh don't worry about age - age-ism is against the law now. But, it exists, of course. As many over 50 yr olds will testify. And possibly younger ones.
So, what can you do in this unpredictable climate?
1. Get all your paperwork, bills and administration in order so that you know what you are dealing with.
2. Find out what the policy and procedures are with regard to the various companies you owe money to, and what will happen if you can't pay.
3. Remember you are one of millions of UK people who are in this position, its not just you, so the companies are used to making arrangements. What else can they do.....if none of us has any money to pay, then the companies have to make the best of a bad job, and generally they will, as long as you are up front with them, and at least pay a little of what you owe, even a few £££'s is better than nothing.
It will cost them alot more to take any legal action, and they are losing enough money anyway.
4. Investigate whether any insurances may cover your payments.
5. Go to Citizens Advice. They will help with anything and everything, have properly trained staff, and some specialists who only deal with employment, or benefits, or debt. Yes, they are run off their feet just now, but they will always make time for you. www.citizensadvice.org.uk
6. Sign on at your local job centre ( www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/)
don't even bother arguing with yourself - just do it - get over it - its what everybody has to do right now
and surprisingly you might find the people at the job centre very pleasant to deal with. I met a woman recently who found a job just through chatting to somebody else waiting in the job centre.
7. Get over yourself yet again. Its not all about you. Its a sign of the times. So be pro-active, take control and find out how you can better yourself, or even feel better about yourself whilst you have the opportunity.
8. Make yourself a daily schedule. Get up in the morning. Get some exercise into your day. Make sure you go out, even if you have nowhere to go - go somewhere. Sign up for some volunteering - Citizens Advice are finding it hard to keep up, get in touch with them, you may be able to help somebody.
9. Work on your confidence. Get some books out of the local libary, or look on-line for some either free or some inexpensive confidence programmes, and work it, work it, work it.
10 Take the time to think how you would really like your life to be (it sounds trite even as I'm writing it - sorry - don't know how else to say it).

Give your dreams words, let them come alive, just play around with it, get some creativity going - and keep away from people who are all doom and gloom, and full of negative thoughts. You don't need that right now, you need people around you who will inspire you, keep your spirits up, support you through these hard times
11. Know that this too will pass. Treat it like a very difficult project you need to manage. Because thats what it is. A difficult project in life, and there is a way of living through this, and coming out smiling at the other side. And you will.
12. Now that you have the time, do some of the things you have always wanted to do. Paint? Walk?
Learn something new? You know you can be signed up for the individual learning account where they have hundreds of different things on offer.
Just know that this is like an enforced career/job break. If its happened - you can only accept it and move on with your journey of life. If you struggle and rage against it, you are only making things difficult for yourself.
